Helena Rogers

In 2014 Helena picked up a paint brush for the first time, starting with watercolor paints, she got enough good feedback to seek out a better understanding of the world of painting. With some great mentoring from the world class watercolorist, Stella Canfield, she learned that she had all that she needed to create art, whether or not a painting has rhythm and the wisdom to know the difference if it does not.

She met oil painting by way of the work of her friend and artist extraordinaire, Mary Lamery, after seeing her work at the Seattle Art Museum Rental Gallery, being completely enchanted with the vibrancy and saturation of oils, Helena drove directly to the art supply store and got the supplies she needed to start what will be a lifelong journey into the world of painting in oils.

Fast forward to 2018, Helena landed her first solo show (30 paintings) at Windermere Mount Baker Real Estate. Since that time, Helena has had showings on a regular basis, including an installation/residency at The Maverick Apartments in Burien where she painted live in a storefront-type window, all while the Covid-19 pandemic was raging all around us. Helena filled the walls with blank canvases and over a 3-month time period, filled each one with a painting, it was an amazing experience. She was also a top seller at the Burien Arts Vision 20/20 that year! All the hard work paid off; Helena was awarded Burien Art Associations Artist of the Year for 2020.

In 2022, Helena took on her own studio at Equinox Studios in Georgetown, working among a talented and diverse group of artists, with new inspiration behind every door! Also, in the last two years her musical career has been reborn! Helena now fronts the band STUDENT NURSE, yet another form of art, rhythm and color. Student Nurse will be on the Dojo Stage at Equinox Studios' Very Out In The Open House on August 10, 2024, at 4pm!
