Aaliyah Gupta
Aaliyah makes art and works towards social change, and is happiest when she can do both of these concurrently.
Born and raised in Kolkata, India, Aaliyah comes from a long line of spirited, rule-breaking women who pursued their passions despite the odds. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, lived in New York and Copenhagen and is now firmly rooted in Seattle and part of the Equinox Studios community.
Aaliyah has received residency fellowships from Wiillapa Bay AiR, Ucross Foundation and Vermont Studio Center. Selected exhibition locations include EKS-Rummet in Copenhagen, DK; Site: Brooklyn Gallery in Brooklyn NY; Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle, WA; Redline in Denver, CO; Wheaton College in Norton, MA; Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL; Core Gallery in Seattle, WA. She received an MFA in painting from Stony Brook University, NY.
In addition to her studio practice, she is actively involved in advocating for immigrant rights and was the founding executive director of Chaya, an organization serving South Asian survivors of domestic violence.
