Alec Davis

A few words about me and art.

I've been working with clay since I was 13. I'm now 72. I received an undergraduate degree in Teaching and Art Education in 1972 and an MFA in Ceramics in 1992.

I've been teaching for more than 50 years, and I love it.

I arrived at Equinox at the beginning of the pandemic, when I lost the place where I made my work, and one of the places where I taught. My gratitude is enormous, (now beginning my 5th year) as an artist who has their studio at Equinox.

On November 15 I'm opening my second solo show at Redwing Cafe in Rainier Beach. My first show there was seven years ago. The show is up through January 12, 2025.

It's also the 10th anniversary of when Redwing Cafe opened so I'm really excited. The owners, Anthony and Su, were neighbors of mine for eight years when I lived on Redwing St. in Rainier Beach. My show is 2d/wall pieces, 95% ceramics and a few of my photographs.

Nature is a profound influence in my life and my work. Other inspiration comes from the vocabulary of cave paintings and petroglyphs all around the world. Ancient cave and rock art is mystical, as well as profoundly beautiful.
