Dan Mahon
Head Artist of the Georgetown Catelier
My main focus is portraiture. Most of my portraits just happen to be of cats.
I work primarily in oil, though recent slumps have introduced me to the immediate joy of acrylic markers on cardboard and it’s “recycling bin trois crayons” aesthetic. I also find digital work to be a joy and with that dipped my toes into some fun little zines, as well as some T-shirt designs.
All will be on display this month for open studios, with the main focus being the four Pizza Cat paintings, which haven’t all been together for some time! They’re a playful combination of influences and muses ranging from cats to Russian Impressionism, art nouveau and of course the joy of a good slice of pizza!
Additional works are currently on display in the collection at Howell Pells gallery in Pioneer Square, as well as the Georgetown Arts and Cultural Center.
