Maureen Ryan
I am an ecologist and painter. The common thread is the desire to sense the languages of nature. Ecology is one way: I've studied the evolutionary ecology of amphibians, effects of climate and landscape change on freshwater wetlands, and the creative practice of scientists and conservationists for two decades. Painting and visual art are another: through direct relationship with materials and all that happens through the ancient, participatory natural practice of art.
