Julie Brooks is a native of North Carolina, where she attended NC State University studying zoology and the life sciences before deciding to explore her passion for the arts. This moved Brooks to East Carolina University where she graduated in 2002 with a BFA in Metal Design and a Minor in Anthropology. After 3 years assisting as a bench jeweler for Atlanta based enamelist Ricky Frank, she attended graduate school and received an MFA in Artisanry, concentration in Jewelry/Metals, from UMASS Dartmouth in 2008. Currently, Brooks teaches at Central Washington University, North Seattle College, Tacoma Metal Arts Center, and Pratt Fine Arts Center. She has also taught for Santa Fe Community College, Pullen Arts Center, Cary Arts Center, NC State University Crafts Center, Winthrop University, and UMASS Dartmouth. Brooks has been published in 1000 Rings, The Art of Enameling, 500 Wedding Rings, and Humor in Craft. She exhibits nationally and is included in the collections of David Freda and Rancho Obi-Wan in Petaluma, CA.
